Billing and payment
The Integrated Water Service bills quarterly its customers.
Metropolitana Milanese also checks the water flow-rate meters at customers’ request. The new fully automatic test facility opened in 2005 made it possible to increase the tested parameters from two to seven and therefore respond more accurately to the customers’ demands.
If consumption measurement proves to be flawed, a bill with correct quantity and reimbursement will follow, up to the maximum of two quarters before the event.
Tariff (in italian only)
The tariff set by the Autorità di Ambito Territoriale (AATO, is calculated to cover running costs for the drinking water supply, sewage collection and wastewater treatment services and to assure a return on investment in networks and plants.
The tariff is structured as follows:
- fixed rate irrespective of the drinking water consumption;
- variable rate proportionate to the metered drinking water consumption;
- rates for sewage service and wastewater treatment, proportionate to the drinking water consumption;
The consumption-based variable rate is stepped into progressive price brackets to adapt to the laws, to control consumption and to encourage water saving.
